Learner goals and capabilities

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on learners from Keuka College to be your learner-consultants, in a project-based experience. Learners will work on one main project over the experience of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.


Learners in this program/experience will learn about the study and practice of professional writing, including but not limited to business and technical communication, proposals, formal reports, and grant writing. Emphasis placed on context-specific writing strategies, basic visual design, and negotiating the rhetorical expectations of professional genres. 


Please note: Learners are coming from a variety of different programs including Writing & Communication Arts, Visual Communication Design, Art & Design, Management, International Studies, and Education.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization. 


Some final project deliverables might include: 

  1. A 15-20 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations

Project Examples

Learners will work independently and collaboratively with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.


Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to: 


  • Apply communication theory in the analysis of workplace issues and develop effective communication solutions
  • Prepare well organized, succinct, and professionally written documents for an organization
  • Identify audience, purpose and appropriate medium for messages through critical analysis and research (e.x. Grant Writing)
  • Understand and apply principles of ethical business communications
  • Write professional communication copy for a variety of audiences and purposes and under a wide range of conditions





Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address learners’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Provide an opportunity for learners to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide relevant information and/or data as needed for the project.
