marketing short films mental healthAs with everyone else in the world, the Edmonton Short Film Festival has had to make substantial changes to our programming and events. We understand the importance of transitioning to an on-line environment. We have been offering programming at live in person events in both 2020 and 2021, but these can no longer take place on the scale they did in the past for the foreseen future. Establishing an on-line presence for our programs and events will assist us in reaching a broader audience. We know who our live in person audience is - but this may have changed for 2021 - and we also need to determine our potential on-line audience for marketing and promoting future events. The shift towards consumer/audience driven on-line content was already happening pre covid – Covid just pushed it into the realm of must do or not survive very quickly. Establishing a strong on-line presence will ensure that our audience can access our events and as mentioned, we will be able to reach a much larger audience. On-line content removes many barriers including – mobility, travel, location (anyone in the world can access, don't need to be in the same city), and mental health (for example those with social anxiety can participate on their own and not attend a busy crowded noisy event).

About the company
The mission of the Edmonton Short Film Festival (ESFF) is to screen a variety of independent Alberta short films and to showcase local filmmakers whose work may fall outside of the “normal” festival market. Or annual festival takes place on the 3rd weekend of October. Our passion is to help emerging and mid-career artists grow in their careers by offering high quality workshops and feedback on the projects they have submitted to the festival. As a grassroots festival created by Edmonton filmmakers, we also invite the community into the world of filmmaking through free events: a Filmmaking “Production Basics” Class, a 48-Hour Mobile Device Filmmaking Challenge and Community Screening events.
