Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

La Connexional is a community focused social enterprise that is run by a team of dedicated individuals on a part-time basis. We have steadily grown over 4 years, from inaugurating Alberta's only Afro-Latin Festival to building a robust and resilient community through innovative events and workshops. We're currently formalizing our processes and developing new revenue streams in light of the COVID-19 pandemic with the goal of scaling La Connexional nationally and creating impactful employment opportunities.

Our small social enterprise and community-centric collective has many projects that we are seeking assistance on with our community outreach, social media planning, marketing, planning your business expansion and/or online presence.

(Some of) Our primary goals with submitting a project to this capstone are to seek extra capacity to help launch or refine existing and/or new initiatives. Please note that we are comfortable with students just choosing one of the initiatives below:

  • Website Development: We would like a new website for our organization. The website should be built on https://unicornplatform.com/ for ease of management. However, we are also open to feedback regarding using a different platform. our e-commerce store is currently being hosted on shopify (shop.laconnexional.com) and our informative website on unicorn (laconnexional.com)
  • Podcast Launch & Production: From our La Explorational Summit (https://event.laconnexional.com/explorational), we recorded and amassed a wealth of audio and video and would like to launch this podcast as a series to kickstart our podcast production. We would also like for students to deliver a 2 episode podcast series, based on our outcome objectives and their experience working with La Connexional and helpiing us launch this production. We have access to softwares that can help with the editing and distribution process.
  • SEO and Social Media Strategy: We’re excited to work with students who can help us not only brainstorm, but also execute a strategy to achieve: Being the top-ranked result for the keywords 'social enterprise Alberta' and/or 'Black organization in Alberta'

Students should be prepared to:

  • Create a design proposal including wireframes or low-fidelity mockups for our company's review.
  • Build a fully-functioning website, with our assistance in providing content and copy.
  • Provide training on updating and maintaining the site.
  • Script each podcast episode.
  • Edit the recorded audio for final publication.
  • Coach participants for success on the microphone.
  • Provide recommendations on increasing listenership.
  • Keyword analysis to determine relevant search terms to our organization
  1. A strategy document to outline:
  • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) requirements to ensure our organization appears on the first page of Google for relevant keywords
  • Social media requirements to increase the number of followers/likes and share
  1. Content Calendar Execution: Timely deployment of all our social media content to drive maximum traffic to our site
  2. Creating engaging content & blogs for prominent media websites
  3. Working with tools and programs such as screpy, serpwatch, frase, BiQ SEO Suite, neuraltext, blogely, and more!

Our handle is @laconnexional across all socials.

If you like the sights and sound of our cultures, or simply enjoy the idea of uplifting underserved communities while widening your networks, and are ready to tackle this challenge with us, then we'd love to hear from you!
