Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The BIA is seeking to create a Signature Event and or Placemaking Activation that will allow the BIA to take full ownership. In other words, the event and or activation eventually should reach a level of recognition whereby attendees associate the experience attained with the BIA location. Ideally the program must have the ability to take place annually, during the winter, off-shoulder season. (February at this point would be the most preferred month)

Are you interested in helping us curate the concept that could potentially launch in February 2024?

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?
  • Reviewing the BIA’s data and research reports to identify keys areas of interests that resonate with our member businesses and visitor demographics
  • A survey of workers in the area and nearby residents (Community Consultation) and reporting on the key findings
  • Developing two potential themes. A Signature Event (Festival like) that would take place over two-three days at a public gathering location. (I.e. Mel Lastman Square) and a Placemaking Activation that would be on display in various areas of our District (I.e Main intersections along Yonge Street) for a minimum of three weeks
  • Sourcing potential event vendors that would execute the program on behalf of the BIA and potential sponsors that would offset expenses
  • Develop a detailed expense budget for two options: an $85,000 pilot or a full $200,000
  • Liaison weekly with Marketing & Economic Development Manager and provide final report for Executive Director, Marketing Subcommittee and Board of Directors to review for consideration.
