Thaumazo is a nonprofit focused on bringing people together to ideate, create and document projects aimed at the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Welcome Collective is an organization whose core mission is to mobilize Montreal’s local community to provide immediate help to the city’s most precarious refugee claimants.

Thaumazo is working with Welcome Collective to translate their Welcome Guide into Haitian Creole.

This work fits under UN Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities. The goal aims to reduce inequalities within and among countries, including providing safe and legal migration opportunities, protecting refugees, and promoting the social, economic, and political inclusion of all, regardless of their background.

Deliverables

The student will:

  • Help prepare and review various automated translations of key material into Haitian Creole
  • Select the best starting points, and complete translation of material into Haitian Creole
  • Work with our team to improve the process & workflow for translation
Mentorship

The student will have access to our Thaumazo slack workspace,

The student will be in contact with both a Thaumazo director and a representative from Welcome Collective, able to answer questions and provide guidance.
