grant applications marketing research marketing communication researchThe main goal of this project is to facilitate book promotion and marketing to further the reach of the company, including detailed research into viable publishers and distribution markets, as well as private funders and funding bodies that support promotions of authors and books. This is detailed work that requires diligence in digging into specifics and finding contacts, and requirements to participate in festivals, joint book promotional activities as well as noting essentials to write applications, proposals, and producing documents to apply for specific funding to tour and promote books.

- conduct online searches to find targeted marketing resources for specific book titles and enter the information on Excel spreadsheets for all aspects of this work, which includes lists/tabs with names, specialty areas, URLs, submission requirements, contacts, etc. for publishers, distributors, and one for funders (corporations/ organizations, foundations, etc.)
- Research and create ideas for material to include in marketing specific book titles, providing a document on each of the specific projects to garner attention for books, to provide information to use in grant applications for touring and other marketing potentials, such as attending world literary festivals, possible social media, print, bloggers, TV shows, etc.
- prepare a document or spreadsheet with additional marketing research and general strategies.
- Potential to write of applications for grants and proposals for sources of funding or to targeted markets and audiences, to attend literary festivals, and book marketing opportunities
- For instance, one of the projects will be on a book that is popular throughout the world, and the student will need to research festivals in Europe and other countries to find out their criteria, what their requirements are to submit applications to attend, when or how often accept submissions and who the direct contact person is. For this topic the student might also research private or external funding sources and prepare an application or write a grant proposal
- Be in regular communications with company with regards to findings and getting feedback on subsequent avenues to pursue to make further contacts or submit proposals
- It is expected that the student(s) will complete a database of marketing resources, listed by categories of festivals, book fairs, relevant TV shows, social media contacts, and other targeted sources of promoting books in a variety of mediums.
- prepare at least one proposal or grant application, although more would be appreciated if there is time
- staff time available for instruction, training and guidance
- questions welcomed and answered expediently
- Staff will be available for consultation and to provide feedback as the student works throughout each step
- software instruction will be provided as needed
- direction will be given towards research sources and leads, and tips provided to expedite the process
- instruction will be provided for writing applications, grants, pitch material and other documents as required.
