Details

Archaeological illustration is a traditional and key means of documenting and depicting artifacts for the purpose of interpretation found in scholarly publication (e.g., books and journal articles). Importantly, hand drawn artifacts are typically able to better portray minute or nuanced details of an object than can be captured by way of photography or computer-generated images.

This project seeks one (1) student with the ability to faithfully reproduce hand drawn images of archaeological artifacts from a combination of objects and photographic images. These hand-drawn images will appear in a peer-reviewed scholarly publication, within which the student will be fully credited (properly cited) for their work, and which they can include in their professional portfolio.

Note: It is important for the student to understand that once published these drawings will fall under Publisher copyright and cannot be reproduced without permission of the publisher. By accepting this position, the student understands that the images they produce do not belong to them once complete.

Deliverables

·      Hand drawn reproduction of archaeological artifacts (4 drawings total) in consultation with the project supervisor.

Digitalization of these hand drawn images (TIFF format to meet publication standards) in consultation with the project supervisor.

Mentorship

Where required/desired the student will have access to:

·      Quiet space for drawing (my office or other)

·      Mentorship and direction throughout the process

·      Art supplies as necessary.

The student will be required to create digital versions of their hand drawn art and those costs will be covered in full by the project supervisor (Carrie Dennett).
