Description

Transformative, collaborative and supportive education: it’s at the heart of what we do. The same qualities are at the heart of what social workers do when they work with families, provide support and transform lives in the communities where they live and work. Students are prepared with the competencies and practice skills to assess and practice in a professional social work setting. Faculty members have a wide range of expertise in social work education, strong connections with the community, and active engagement in research and scholarly activities to advance social work education.

A Scoping Review on the Knowledge Gaps in the Current Literature Critical Race Theory and Anti-Black Racism Framework in Social Work Education, Research, and Practice - Winter 2024

This proposed research is a scoping review. This type of methodology seeks to undertake a comprehensive search of the breadth and scope of all available literature pertaining to the research topic and question. The main purpose of conducting a scoping study is to identify gaps in existing literature, to summarize and synthesize research findings from existing literature. The data will be amassed from published peer-reviewed academic publications in English from 2000 to 2022 through key word searches such as ‘social work and critical race theory  and education ,’ and ‘social work and anti-Black racism  and research’  in order to extract relevant data. Some of the electronic databases that would be used are  EBSCO and ProQuest.  The abstract of articles will be reviewed to ensure they meet the  keyword  search criteria. Those that are not a good fit will be eliminated at this stage. This process will be followed by an extensive review of the articles’ content  to complete the final selection of eligible articles. This will be followed by the charting of emergent themes.  The scoping review will be concluded with a written report of the findings.

Student Connect Event

The student connect event will bring together students and community stakeholders to support the unhoused population in Edmonton. There are 2 main parts of the project, the first is that the student will consult with inner city organizations to understand how students at MacEwan University (across various faculties) can contribute their skills to assist in addressing the housing crisis. The second part of this project involves collaborating with students, professors and stakeholders at MacEwan University who are interested in these supports and services.
