Virtual Internship Opportunities Individual student consultants from West Virginia University will help your organization solve a computer information system problem. Students are available for 20 hours per week over a 12 week period. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually. Students can start as early as January 19, 2021.
Business Data Mining and Visualization

BUDA 450. Business Data Mining and Visualization. This course introduces students to higher-order business analytics methods and topics that impact the way businesses make decisions. Topics such as data collection, data technologies, and data mining methods are covered, focusing on impacting business outcomes. The students participate in research projects involving all aspects of data analytics. Some examples include: data collection, program evaluation, develop and deploy surveys, help with funding applications, create dashboards, and analysis using a variety of statistical tools. Students apply analytical models, methodologies, and tools learned in the program to analyze data sets to predict trends and challenges and investigate to develop an analytics solution for your organization. Faculty mentors will work with students to ensure the project reflects best practices for big data analytics and project management.
System Analysis and Design

Beginning this September, student-consultants in a group of 4-5 will dedicate 140+ hours over the entire semester developing a custom solution for your organization. The students will conduct a conceptual database design (Entity Relationship Modelling), logical design (Normalization), and implementation using Oracle 12c. Student skills include: Evaluating various software development life cycle models; Analyzing current organizational situations/needs to determine where technological solutions can resolve problems; Designing application system solutions to meet the needs identified and document the design in requirements, specifications and design documents; Creating process documentation involved in system implementation and maintenance.
