Bio

Hi! My name is Julia, and I'm a Librarian at an amazing Library, on a magical little island called Salt Spring Island, in British Columbia. If you've never been here, please come visit us! In our Library, we build opportunities for everyone to learn, connect and explore. We value innovation, equity/diversity/inclusion and social justice, discovery, sustainability, and are community-led.

We are operated by over 100 volunteers and just five paid staff. We provide a community-based and service oriented atmosphere in the heart of Ganges village. The Library participates in all province-wide services such as BC OneCard, downloadable eBooks and audiobooks, interlibrary loan, and subscription database access. The Library partners with Salt Spring Literacy, The Salt Spring Historical Society and Archives, Transitions Salt Spring, the local schools, and many other local organizations. We provide many meaningful programs to our community.

Marketing Strategy & Planning for Medium Public Library

Our Library hosts thousands of patrons every year, online, in-person, at our programs and events and using our resources. We make a concerted effort of media and messaging to reach our patron base, but stand to revamp our marketing strategy in the midst of an institutional communications overhaul planned for next year. The Library seeks 1-2 students to help us build a strategic marketing plan to grow and engage our target market. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with our current marketing goals and strategies. Familiarizing themselves with our offerings and priorities, to understand who we are and what our goals are. Researching how Salt Spring Islanders perceive our institution and marketing. Recommending new channels and methods we should use for promotion. Identifying an appropriate budget for advertising. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Recommending updates to our messaging that can better explain our value proposition.

Digital Content Platform Migration

In sum, we would like students to help us migrate our social media content from Hootsuite, over to Social Pilot, helping us navigate this transition. We would like to coordinate with our student about the new platform to ensure our organization's transition from one platform to the next goes smoothly. To facilitate that transition, we would like them to create a help document that includes links to short videos or very specific help topics. A one-time half-hour staff training event would be needed. This event could be pre-recorded, or could be done over Zoom or Microsoft Teams live, as the student chooses/their time zone allows. Any further notes, optimizations, or social media best practices will also be gratefully welcomed and considered above and beyond towards this project's completion. If you are ready to tackle this challenge with us, then we'd love to hear from you!
