Tree Monitoring - Mobile App UI / UX Design & Prototype
Our lab would like to explore designing a prototype for a native mobile application version of our current natural cover monitoring program. We currently collect a lot of georeferenced tree information data in several different ways and we would like to start to attempt to capture some of data via a mobile application open to the public. Tasks may include: Conducting background research on our existing web application for the product. Identifying key areas of our current data collection and how they might translate to a mobile application. Learning and using various software design tools. We strongly recommend students learn how to use Figma as this is the latest and greatest tool currently available. Creation of a screen by screen UX / UI prototype of a native mobile application which can be used on both iOS and Android Conducting UX / UI testing with real potential users potentially involving paper prototypes or other software tools to support this
Vegetation and tree measurements: Mobile App Development

Website Development: Forests in Settled & Urban Landscapes applied science and research.
Forests in Settled & Urban Landscapes: Applied science and research aimed at supporting and informing conservation, management, planning, and restoration of forests across different spatial scales - from single trees along city streets to entire landscapes. We hope to update and revamp our existing website to share our knowledge, science, and projects and attract more partners and collaborators. We would like to work with students to develop a new website that is easy to maintain while providing an appealing interface for users. Our website resides on AWS. The work will involve several different steps for the students, including: Researching site-building tools that can be used with AWS and their associated advantages / disadvantages. Conducting a needs analysis to determine which site-building tool is most suitable for a site that is on AWS Building a website, utilizing the existing content and with our assistance on content changes and new content Providing training on updating and maintaining the website. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Testing prototypes with the lab members and refining ideas with feedback.
